Dolly Dill Obituary

On Saturday June 25, 2022, Dolly Dill, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt passed away at the age of 86. Dolly was born on April 09,1936 in Cleveland, Tx to Sherman and Faye (Douvall) Wells. She was raised by her grandmother and grandfather, Ora and Stella Douvall, after the death of her father when she was 8 years of age.   Dolly graduated from Tarkington High School in 1954. She was passionate about basketball and played on the only girls’ basketball team from Tarkington to play in the state championship.  She received a basketball scholarship to Cisco Junior College. After an injury Dolly went on to PBX Switchboard and Receptionist School completing this in May 1956.  Dolly was working in New Orleans when she met the love of her life, Billy Dill.  He asked her to wait another two weeks and then he would move to Tarkington to be with her.  Dolly's family helped Billy get a job at Meekin's Supermarket as a butcher. They married in May 1959. In April of 1960 their daughter Stella was born. Dolly was able to be home for many years to raise her precious daughter Dolly also attended San Jacinto Jr. College to study Real Estate Law. It was not until the early seventies that she found her true passion. She started working as a dispatcher for Cleveland Police Department. It was there that she knew she wanted more than being a dispatcher, and with the support of then Chief Harley Loving she was able to attend the Harris County Sheriff’s Academy.  She completed the academy in December of 1975. Dolly was hired by the Cleveland Police Department and Chief Loving’s. She was the first female police officer in Liberty County   She continued working for the Cleveland Police Department until her retirement in 1995. She had risen in the ranks of Detective after 20 years of faithful service. She always continued her education and honing her skills  to become a better officer.  She had a servant’s heart and always wanted to help people in need. In April of 1983 tragedy struck with the death of her husband Billy, from cancer.  Dolly never dated or wanted another man.  She always said after having the best she wouldn’t settle for less, but God always provides and sent her two grandsons, Billy Keller and Karl Keller Jr.  They were the lights and joy of her life.  She also loved her son in law, Karl Keller very much because he was such a good husband and father for her daughter and grandsons. Dolly enjoyed every minute that she could with her family. Her nieces and nephews each one had a special place in her heart. In her finial weeks she would get voice texts, phones messages, and cards that would put a smile on her face.
